A pleasant day to each and every one of us…
Today is our final day of the mentoring program, it seems like just yesterday that we had our first meeting, our first mentoring session, and in this very same place, we had the chance to get to know the children who became part of our lives.
When we were first told that we will be having a mentoring program in Math, we were all so excited to really grab the opportunity to take part in this activity. Because we know that through this mentoring program, we would be able to help others, inspire others, and of course, touch other people’s live in one way or another.
We know from the very start that we don’t have to expect anything in return because we are all volunteers, meaning, we don’t have to expect anything in return, instead, give our full commitment and responsibility.
Luckily, we were given the chance to share to these young children the knowledge that we have in Math. We can not say that we are the best in this field because we are still students too, we are also in the process of learning. But we know that the little knowledge that we have in Math, that we would be able to share to others could somehow really make a difference.
When the mentoring sessions began, we don’t know what to expect. Because for us, every session is always a brand new learning experience for all of us, both for the mentors and the students. There are even times that we are just so shocked of the happenings that we can’t help but to talk about it over and over again because we really enjoyed the incredible thoughts. Indeed, different people with different personalities were there in front of us to handle.
Though there are times that there are factors like, heavy rain, other commitments, pressure, time constrains and other personal matters, that would come our way, still, it did not stop us in coming here and really get out of our way to be with the children.
There would be moments that we would forever cherish in our hearts. Like, the very noisy and unfathomable children. There are others that keep on playing and running around. Others would do classroom hopping! Mind you, I mean, literally! Though sometimes it makes the mentor really mad, or really laugh hard, it doesn’t matter. What we know is we really had a good time. There would always be different experiences in just one setting.
This mentoring program made us realize how important education really is. That is why, we would like to say thank you for giving us the chance to be a part of your learning. Also, thank you for the opportunity that all of you has given us and that is, somehow inspire you and help you in your daily struggle in Math. I, for one, knows how you feel, and we, you mentors, share the same sentiments. But we would really hope that all the things that we have taught you really helped you and you will use as an effective tool in your learning.
Always bare in your young minds that the best time to prepare for tomorrow and all the other tomorrows that would follow is now. And never fear, nor take for granted the chance that you will have in learning math. Because mathematics may not only be the measures of your knowledge, but it is one of the measures.
Thank you and good morning.
